Foundational Open Science Skills Online
February 9 – April 21, 2021 | Online
Tuesdays 12noon – 2pm Eastern; Wednesdays 2pm – 4pm Eastern
Open to faculty, postdocs, and advanced graduate students of all skill levels, FOSS Online offers hands-on learning resources to build a solid Open Science foundation for your research and educational projects, in a collaborative, supportive atmosphere with peers and project mentors. The curriculum will help you set yourself apart, with new technical and virtual collaboration skills that funders, research and educational institutions, and even students now demand.
CyVerse's team of experienced scientific bioinformaticians teach using a small workgroup format, including weekly check-ins and homework assignments to keep you on track with your research or curriculum development goals. Flexible times allow you to attend one 2-hour session each week; a mid-semester Break provides a chance to catch-up or to dig deeper into Container technology. Don't let a lack of command-line or coding skills intimidate you, as CyVerse's onboarding resources provide a leg up to help you learn to access and use the cyberinfrastructure backbone of 21st century science and join the data science revolution.
Whether you attend singly to hone your skills or as a lab/team focused on achieving a collaborative goal, the capstone project offers hands-on time to apply your hard-won skills using your data or curricula with assistance from your instructors.
